Mike Gant is a self-taught photographer based in York, working under the name MGantVisuals.
His work focuses on portraits, character and emotion, from natural photographs taken around the streets of York he shoots editorial-style images. He enjoys experimenting with light, different locations and both colour and black and white photography to create images that feel personal and timeless.

Inspired by photographers such as Peter Lindbergh, Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, Mike believes a photograph doesn’t need to be overcomplicated to show a beautiful image. For him, it’s about capturing something real, whether that’s a person’s expression, their confidence or a feeling that lets the viewer create their own story from the image.

Mike welcomes everyone, from people who have never been in front of a camera before to models, creatives, artists and professionals who are looking to build their portfolio. He wants every shoot to feel relaxed and enjoyable, giving people the chance to be themselves rather than feel like they have to pose a certain way.
When he’s not behind the camera, Mike can usually be found exploring York for new locations or looking at the work of photographers who inspire him.

His aim is simple, to create photographs with character and that feel honest and unique and that people will still love looking back on years later.
